Explore Gabu Village Cham
Among the annual Buddhist rituals of Gabu (Kapuk) village in Chentsa (Mahlo TAP, Qinghai Province) are those held at the community temple. A week prior to the ritual dances, called cham, the tantric practitioners gather in the temple, pray and make vases full of mani pills. Numerous dances are performed over many days, and include the Norbu Gakhyil, Trowo and Tromo, and Appeasing Demons and Nagas, before concluding with a distribution of the offerings. Video of each of the dances was recorded by cultural documentarian Kalwang in February 2016.
