Many years ago, one of our animals fell into one of the lakes. When the animal floated on the surface, I pulled it to safety.

That cow lived up to 25 years.

That cow lived till twenty-five.

In the old days, when your family looked after the marshy land, did you receive payment?

We get nothing. It was a duty assigned to you, and you won't get any benefit like these days.

མི་ཁོ་ར་ཁྲིམས་ཁོ་ར་སྲུང་དགོས་ཀྱི་རེད་པ།

You had to follow the law.

ཁྲིམས་སྲུང་དུས་སྒང་ལ་ཁྲིམས་པ་མ་ཕྱིན་པ་ཡིན་ན་ཨཱ་ནི་འགྲིག་གི་ཡོག་མ་རེད།

It's mandatory that you had to perform the duty assigned to you.

And then there was that circular hat. You carry the stick in your hand go about and wear that hat.

That was the duty performed by the watchman of marshy land. I don't know who created the law.

ལྟ་མར་མི་སོ་སོར་ལས་འགན་རེ་རེ་ཡོག་རེད་པ། འདི་ང་ཚོ་ལས་འགན་འདི་འཁྱེར་གྱིས། འཁྱེར་དགོས་ཀྱི་ཡོད་པ་འདྲ།

As you know, each person had to perform some duty. And I think that was one of them we all had to perform.

གླ་ཆ་དེ་འདྲས་ཡོག་མ་རེད།

But there was no payment for doing that.

If you failed to perform your duty, you would receive punishment, leave aside the expectation of getting paid.

As per our old custom, a younger sibling can't get involve in the matter concerning the elder ones.
