This song introduces three prominent buildings in Bhutan and their associated figures: Talo Monastery, Punakha Dzong, and Thimphu Tashi Chodzong. The song says that Talo Monastery is the main seat of Lama Zhabdrung, Punakha Dzong the seat of Jekhenpo, the chief abbot, and Tashi Chodzong the main seat of His Majesty the King of Bhutan. Although the song is sung across Bhutan, it is originally from the western part of the country, most probably from District. Here the women of Genyenkha in Thimphu sing the song at a house warming ceremony.
According to a story, the oldest foal had to be sent to China to be the riding horse of the emperor, a middle foal was sent to Tibet to be the riding horse of a lama, and the youngest foal sent to Bhutan to be the riding horse of the Dharma King. The song is sung and danced in the style of a gorgorm circle dance. In this video, the women of Genyenkha in Thimphu sing and dance at a “window erection ceremony” at a new house in the locality.
