Medulla oblongata

Essentially synonymous with the myelencephalon, which develops into the medulla oblongata (medulla), this brain region is located within the hindbrain and transmits signals between the spinal cord and the higher parts of the brain. It also controls autonomic functions, such as heartbeat, respiration, and blood pressure, and reflexes.
