Interpeduncular cistern

A subarachnoid cistern, the interpeduncular cistern is filled with cerebrospinal fluid and located between the temporal lobes. It encloses the cerebral peduncles and other structures within the interpeduncular fossa. Anteriorly, it is continuous with the chiasmatic cistern. Inferiorly, it is continuous with the pontine cistern. The interpeduncular cistern contains the oculomotor nerve and basilar artery.
