Pituitary stalk

The pituitary stalk is also known as the infundibulum or infundibular stalk. It lies outside of the blood brain barrier and connects the posterior pituitary to the hypothalamus. This allows hormones synthesized in the hypothalamus to reach the posterior pituitary and ultimately, the bloodstream.
