The song Sung Kead Nim Mo, the voice of the Cuckoo, is a glorification song that is dedicated to the spiritual master; the bird is compared with the Buddha because the bird can fly over the mountain top with a melodious voice, which is carried all over the universe, carrying happiness to all sentient beings. Similarly, the golden words of the Buddha himself spreads to the ears of all living beings and brings them happiness. Thus, the bird’s voice in the song is a metaphor for the Buddha’s teachings.
