Vishwa Karma Puja is a festival dedicated to the Lord of Creation Vishwakarma, the main architect of the universe according to the Hindu mythology. Engineers and architects worship Vishwakarma. Once a year, on September 17th, the puja, or ritual, is performed in work places, where a statue of Lord Vishwakarma is placed in front of machines, and all sort of equipment. It is believed that Lord Vishwakarma blesses machinery and that the businesses will prosper with the help of this puja. The statue of Lord Vishwakarma used in pujas is later thrown in the river. Bala Ram says that the reason for throwing the statue in the river is the impossibility of worshiping it daily.

The reason we celebrate Vishwa karma Puja is because Vishwa karma made so many things; to talk, walk, dig, cut, and all like iron, gold, silver and whatever exist it was made by Vishwa Karma. Therefore on date 16th after preparation is done then comes 17th in which we perform Puja.

We perform Puja to four handed Vishwa Karma. In hand he carries hammer and then nail, Farsha and tawlini (pls. Translate the two terms). And we should also offer feast to his helpers.

And on 18th all get to their work. like aero plane will take a flight, people should start digging on 18th, same is with ploughing and movement of vehicles and trains. Vishwa is world and karma means work. and this kind of work is designated for caste Biswa Karma. For caste Biswa Karma it is important to perform Vishwa Karma on 17th.

We take this statue and put in river. For gods dwelling there, we offer milk and make incense offering. While putting statue in river we thank him for having fulfilled the wishes.

It is fine to keep statue at home. We have here at home. The reason for not keeping at home is we must perform puja everyday if we are keeping it at home. Therefore, for convenience we put in river to be carried away.

We keep here in temple and we perform puja every day. We keep this statue for three to four years after bring it on first year and say a prayers before it morning and evening. In following year, during Puja we wash it by Tulasi leaf, Til and all. It is as good as washing baby after birth. We clean statue and then perform Puja.
