Tandin and Karpola from Bongo Gewog (county) in Chukha district, sing various categories of tsangmo (ballad) songs to demonstrate how tsangmo is sung between two or more people. It is a form of ballad which is sung with different tunes. It can be in various genres such as happy tsangmo, love tsangmo, sad tsangmo, enmity tsangmo and friendly tsangmo. During the old days people used to express and share their feelings through tsangmo. It was a means for them to communicate with each other. They sang tsangmo when they worked in the field or during leisure times but now such traditions are replaced by modern technologies and it is practiced no more. These days tsangmo is conducted as competitions among students to prevent its decline.
༉ ཆུ་ཁ་རྫོང་ཁག་ སྦོང་སྒོར་རྒེད་འོག་ སྐྱུང་ཁ་གཡུས་ཚན་ནང་ལས་ རིན་ཆེན་དང་དཀར་པོ་ལ་གིས་ མི་ཚུ་གི་བར་ན་རྩང་མོ་འདི་ ག་དེ་སྦེ་འཐེནམ་ཨིན་ན་གི་སྐོར་ལས་ མ་འོངས་པ་གི་ན་གཞོན་ཚུ་ལུ་དཔེ་དང་འདྲཝ་སྦེ་ རྩང་མོ་ལེ་ཤ་ཅིག་འཐེན་ནི་འདུག རྩང་མོ་འདི་ གདངས་དབྱངས་མ་འདྲཝ་ལེ་ཤ་གི་ཐོག་ལས་འཐེནམ་ཨིནམ་ད་ འདི་ལུ་ ཚིག་དྲུག་མ་འབད་མི་ཚིག་རྐང་བཞི་རེ་ཡོདཔ་ཨིན། དབྱེ་བ་ དགྲ་དང་གཉེན་ དགའ་བ་དང་སྐྱོ་བ་ བསྟོད་པ་དང་དམའ་ཕབ་ཀྱི་ཚིག་ཚུ་ལག་ལེན་འཐབ་སྟེ་འཐོན་ནི་ཡོད། དེ་ཡང་ནང་ན་གི་སེམས་ཀྱི་ཚོར་བ་ཚུ་ ཕྱིའི་རྩང་མོའི་ཚིག་ནང་སླབ་ཨིན། ཧེ་མ་འབད་བ་ཅིན་ རྩང་མོ་འདི་ ཞིང་ནང་ལཱ་འབད་བའི་སྐབས་དང་ དལ་ཁོམ་ཡོད་པའི་སྐབས་འཐེནམ་ཨིནམ་དང་ ད་རེས་ནངས་པར་ རྒྱལ་ཁབ་ཀྱི་འགྱུར་བ་ལུ་བརྟེན་ཏེ་ འདི་བཟུམ་མའི་སྲོལ་འདི་ལག་ལེན་མི་འཐབ་དོ་ཡོདཔ་ཨིན། ཨིན་རུང་ འདི་བཟུམ་གྱི་ལམ་སྲོལ་འདི་ཉམས་མ་བཅུག་པར་བཞག་ནི་གི་དོན་ལུ་ སློབ་གྲྭ་ནང་ སློབ་ཕྲུག་ཚུ་གི་བར་ན་ འགྲན་བསྡུར་འབད་འགོ་འདྲེན་འཐབ་སྲོལ་ཡོདཔ་ཨིན།

- རྟ་མགྲིན་བཙུགས་ན་གསེར་གྱི་ལ་རྫུབ་བསྐྱིད།། མ་བཙུགས་དངུལ་གྱི་ལ་རྫུབ་བསྐྱིད།། བཙུགས་ན་ལག་ཏུ་འཇའ་བས།། མཇུག་པ་ཀེ་ནང་ལ་བཞག་གེ། The ring made of gold and the silver seem beautiful when we wear it. I will going to keep it with me.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་ཕར་གྱི་སྤང་གཤོང་ལ་ལྡན་མོའི།། ནང་གྱི་ཤ་ཝ་ལ་རོགས་པོ།། ཤ་ཝ་ལ་རོགས་པོ་མེད་ན།། སྤང་གཤོང་རྩ་ལ་ཟ་མི་མེད།། Randeer in the other side of the pastureland cannot graze without the friends.
- རྟ་མགྲིན་ཕར་རི་སྤང་གི་ལ་ལོག་ལས།། ཤ་ཝ་ཡར་འགྲོ་ལ་མར་འགྲོ།། ཡར་འགྲོ་རྩ་ཡང་མི་ཟ།། མར་འགྲོ་ཆུ་ཡང་ལ་མི་འཐུང་།། The randeer of the other side of the pastureland not wish to graze and drink water when he migrate the hill.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་གསེར་མིག་ཉ་མོ་ལ་ཤི་རུང་།། ཤར་ཤར་ཆུ་མོ་ལ་ཤི་ནི་མེད།། ཤར་ཤར་ཆུ་མོ་ནམ་ཡང་།། ཤི་ནི་རྩམ་ཅིག་ལ་མིན་འདུག། Though golden fish dies, the water will remain as it is.
- རྟ་མགྲིན་མར་ལ་མའི་འོག་གི་ལ་ཨོམ་ཆུ།། ཆུ་བདུག་ཆུ་ཨིན་པ་ལ་མ་ཤེས།། རང་རྒྱུ་ལ་ལོ་ནམ་གཞོན་པའི་སྟབས་ཀྱིས།། ཆུ་ཧུབ་གསུམ་འཐུང་འདི་ལ་སྡོད་ཅི།། There is a poisioned water at the side of the way. But I took it without noticing it.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་ལམ་བསྟ་ལམ་འོག་ལ་བརྐྱབ་རུང་།། ང་ལམ་བསྟ་ཧིང་ཅིག་བརྐྱབ་རུང་།། ལམ་འོག་ལ་ཨོམ་ཆུ་ལ་མ་འཐོང་ལོ།། I didn't notice the pound water even I searched the waysides.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་ངེ་གཟི་ནི་མིག་ཏོ་ལ་བཅུ་གཉིས།། དངས་ར་སྦུག་ལུ་ལ་སྦྱངས་ཡི།། འཕྲལ་ཐེ་ཚོམ་འཐོབ་པ་མནོ་སྟེ།། བུམོ་རང་གིས་ལ་རེ་བ་མ་བརྐྱབ།། I lost the turquoise of twelve eyes in the middle of the town. I don't know wheather I will find it or not.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་དངས་རས་སྦུག་གི་ལས་གཟི་འདི།། འཐོབ་ཅིག་མནོ་འདི་ལ་དགའ་རུང་།། རང་ལག་ལས་གཤོར་རུང་བུ་རང་ཡང།། བློ་གཅིག་རང་མ་འཁོལ་ལ་བསམ་པ་ཡོད།། I lost the turquoise of twelve eyes in the middle of the town. And I don't regret even I lost it.
- རྟ་མགྲིན་ཤིང་གཅིག་སྐམ་པའི་ལ་ལོག་ལས།། སྟ་ཆུང་གཡོ་གཡོ་ལ་མ་བྱེད།། སྟ་ཆུང་གཡོ་གཡོ་ལ་བྱེད་ན།། ཤིང་ཆེན་ར་ལས་ལ་མི་ཆད།། If you wish to cut down that tree, never try with the bent axe. If you do with the bent axe you can't able to cut down the tree.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་ཤིང་ཆེན་ར་ལས་ལ་སྤོག་པ།། སྟ་ཆུང་བསྒྲིང་བསྒྲིང་ལ་མི་འདུག། སྟ་ཆུང་བསྒྲིང་ལ་བསྒྲིང་ཡོད་པ།། བུ་རང་གི་སེམས་པ་ལ་མིན་འདུག། Althought I wished to destroy the tree but there is no well made axe. Because of it I didn't cut it down.
- རྟ་མགྲིན་བྱ་ཅིག་ནམ་ལས་ལ་འཕུར་སོང་།། སྒོང་སྒོ་ས་ལས་ལ་ལུས་སོང་།། བྱ་མོར་དམ་ཚིག་ཡོད་ན།། སྒོང་དོ་གཡས་བསྐོར་བརྐྱབ་ཤོག། The bird flew away leaving the egg behind. If you are compassionate and caring bird, then return for the eggs.

- དཀར་པོ་ལ་མར་རྒྱ་ནག་གཏིང་ལས་འཐོན་པའི།། ནོར་བུ་དུང་དཀར་གཡས་འཁྱིལ།། ཕྱི་དཀར་དཀར་དྭངས་ཚོགས་ལྡན་རུང་།། ནང་གསུངས་སྐད་གང་བ་ལ་སྙན་པས།། The conch brought from India has melodies hym internally and it has beautiful to look at it externally.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་གངས་དམར་ཀྲེ་གངས་ཀྱི་ལ་སྐེད་པ།། ལྷབ་སངས་བཏངས་མནོ་བ།། དཔེ་ཆ་རླུང་གིས་ལ་ཡབ་སྟེ།། ཕན་རྒྱ་རང་ལུ་ལ་མིན་འདུག། I wished to perform the ritual on that hill But the wind is destrubing while performing it.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་གངས་དམར་ཀྲེ་གངས་ཀྱི་ལ་སྐེད་པ།། ལྷབ་སངས་བཏངས་དགོ་ལ་བསམ་པ།། ཁྱོད་དཔེ་ཆ་མེད་པ་བལྟ་སྟེ།། ང་ལྷབ་བསང་མ་བཏང་པར་བཞག་གེ། I wished to perform the ritual on that hill There is no text and I didn't able to do it.
- རྟ་མགྲིན་ལྷ་སར་བར་བསྐོར་ནང་ལ་རྒྱབ་ལས།། ཤ་ཅིག་ཉོ་དགོ་ལ་མནོ་བ།། ཤ་ལུ་ཚིལ་ལུ་མེད་པ།། གོང་ལུ་ལྷམ་པ་ལ་ཡབ་སོང་།། I went to Lhasa town to buy meat But there is no enough fat in it and also the price is high.
- དཀར་པོ་ལ་ལྷ་སར་བར་བསྐོར་ཁྲོམ་ལ།། ཤ་ཅིག་ཉོ་བར་འོང་ཅི།། ཤ་ཅིག་ཉོ་བར་འོང་པ།། ཁྱོད་འབད་བཞག་མེད་པ་ལ་ལུས་ཅི།། You came to buy meat from Lhasa town. But you didn't it because of your bad behhaviour.
