Sonam Pelmo from Ogyencholing village, located in Tang Gewog (county) of Bumthang district, demonstrates the local practice of curing or healing illnesses such as a cough or a cold. It is said that in her village only Sonam Pelmo knows this tradition of healing. She cures the disease by communicating with the evil spirits, demons and other unseen creatures. She tells them that she has brought them enough food and drinks, so they should now leave the victim alone and find their own way to liberation. It is believed that evil spirits, or any other unseen creatures that cause harm and sickness to human beings, act in such a way due to their hunger and desire for food and drinks. Therefore Sonam Pelmo convinces the spirits and pleads them to go back to their own abode without any obstacles.
