is a ordinary one. There are some better multi-story houses with five, six or seven floors.

spacious, and in addition, the style also, these days foreign, western countries', and inland China's ways of building houses are combined, therefore there are many different ways of building houses

ད་འདི་ཡིན་ན་སྤྱིར་བཏང་ཟེར་ན་ལྷ་སའི་ནང་ནས་བྱས་ན་སྤྱིར་བཏང་འབྲིང་ཅིག་བརྩིས་ཀྱི་རེད། སྤྱིར་བཏང་འབྲིང་ཅིག་ཁང་པ་ཅིག་བརྩིས་ཀྱི་རེད།

And this (house), in general, in terms of Lhasa, is a sort of middle-class one, an ordinary one.

and this is the kitchen, and likewise, the bathroom is there. Over there, inside, is where the three representations of the Buddha are kept; a small shrineroom. And that is the room for the children, and there is the living room, where we sit when we have a lot of people over.

So, we have a large area of ground. So, Tibetan... our Tibetan... so that, uh... that architecture and in the case of those, those were built completely with Tibetan architecture.

དཔེར་ན་ཕ་ཚོ་ཅི་དག་སྒེའུ་ཁུང་ཅི་དག་ཨ་ནི་་་ཁྲ་མ་དེ་ཚོ་ཚང་མ་ལོགས་ཤིང་གིས་སྒར་བྱས། ཨ་ནི་་་ཕ་གིའི་ཁྲ་མ་ཆུང་ཆུང་བྱས།
dper na pha tsho ci dag sge'u khung ci dag a ni khra ma de tsho tshang ma logs shing gis sgar byas/_a ni pha gi'i khra ma chung chung byas/
And like those over there, the windows, the framed windows, are entirely made from wood and are put up. And those small frames...

ད་དེ་ཚོ་ཡིན་ན་དེང་དུས་ཀྱི་དེ་འདྲས་ཨར་པོའི་ཡོ་བྱད་དེ་འདྲས་མང་རུ་ཕྱིན་ཙང་། དེ་ཚོ་ཤུགས་ཆེན་པོ་བཟོས་བྱས་ཆེན་པོ་སྒེའུ་ཁུང་ཆེན་པོ་བཟོས་ཨ་འདྲས་༿དེ་འདྲས་༾བྱས་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
da de tsho yin na deng dus kyi de 'dras ar po'i yo byad de 'dras mang ru phyin tsang /_de tsho shugs chen po bzos byas chen po sge'u khung chen po bzos a 'dras {de 'dras }byas yo'o red{yod red }/_
And these (windows) because the modern things for building houses have increased, they can make strong (things), big, make big windows like this.

ཡིན་ནའི་ཡ་གིའི་སྒང་གི་སྒང་གི་ཡ་ཚོའི་རི་མོ་དེ་ཚོ་ཡིན་ན་ཚང་མ་ལོགས་ང་ཚོ་བོད་རིགས་རང་གི་རི་མོའི་འགྲོ་སྟངས་བྱས་བྲིས་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
yin na'i ya gi'i sgang gi sgang gi ya tsho'i ri mo de tsho yin na tshang ma logs nga tsho bod rigs rang gi ri mo'i 'gro stangs byas bris yo'o red{yod red }/
However, all of those paintings over there are painted in our Tibetan way of painting.

ཨ་ནི་་་ཕ་གའི་ད་དུང་ཤམ་བུ། ཤམ་བུ་ཕ་གི་ཡིན་ན་ལོ་གཅིག་ལ་ཐེངས་རེ་རེ་བརྗེས་པོ་རྒྱག་གི་རེད།
a ni pha ga'i da dung sham bu/_sham bu pha gi yin na lo gcig la thengs re re brjes po rgyag gi red/
And these curtain fringes also, these fringes are changed once a year.

ང་ཚོ་ལོ་གསར་བཏང་དུས་ཡང་ཤམ་བུ་ཕ་གི་གསར་པ་རྒྱག་གི་རེད། གསར་པ་བརྒྱབ་ཨ་འདྲས་༿དེ་འདྲས་༾ཟེར། ཨ་འདྲས་༿དེ་འདྲས་༾བྱེད་ཀྱི་རེད།
nga tsho lo gsar btang dus yang sham bu pha gi gsar pa rgyag gi red/_gsar pa brgyab a 'dras {de 'dras }zer/_a 'dras {de 'dras }byed kyi red/
When we celebrate the Tibetan New Year, those fringes are also changed for new ones, new ones like this, they're changed like this.

ཨ་ནི་་་ད་ལྟ་ཡ་གིའི་ཁང་པའི་སྒང་གི་ཡ་གིའི་སྒང་གི་འཁྲུ་ཁང་ཡ་གིའི་སྒང་གི་ཡ་གི་དེ་ནི་ཉི་འོད་ལ་བལྟས་བྱས་ཆུ་ཚ་པོ་བཟོ་བྱས་ཨ་ནི་་་ང་ཚོ་ནམ་རྒྱུན་ནས་འདིའི་ཆུ་ཚ་པོ་བརྒལ་ཡས་དང་ཨ་འདྲས་༿ད་ཨེའདྲས་༾ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
a ni da lta ya gi'i khang pa'i sgang gi ya gi'i sgang gi 'khru khang ya gi'i sgang gi ya gi de ni nyi 'od la bltas byas chu tsha po bzo byas a ni nga tsho nam rgyun nas 'di'i chu tsha po brgal yas dang a 'dras {da e'adrasa }yo'o red{yod red }/
And now up on top of the house, up above the bathroom, over there, that (solar heater) makes hot water using sunlight; and we normally have hot showers and such.

ཨ་ནི་་་འདིའི་སྒོ་ར་འདིའི་ནང་ལ་ཡིན་ན། ང་ཚོས་མེ་ཏོག་སྣ་མིན་སྣ་ཚོགས་མང་པོ་བཏབ་ཡོད། ཤིང་དང་ཨ་ནི་་་འདའི་༿འདིར་༾ད་དུང་ཆུ་འདིའི་ནང་ལ་ཉ་གསོས་ཨ་འདྲས་༿འདི་འདྲས་༾བྱས་ནའི་འགྲིག་གི་ཡོའོ་རེད་༿ཡོད་རེད་༾འདིར།
a ni 'di'i sgo ra 'di'i nang la yin na/_nga tshos me tog sna min sna tshogs mang po btab yod/_shing dang a ni 'da'i {'dir }da dung chu 'di'i nang la nya gsos a 'dras {'di 'dras }byas na'i 'grig gi yo'o red {yod red }'dir/
And in this yard, we have planted many kinds of flowers, trees, and we can, in this water, raise fish also, it is suitable here

ཉ་གསོས་ཨ་འདྲས་༿འིད་འདྲས་༾བྱས་ནའི་འགྲིག་གི་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾། ཨ་ནི་་་མེ་ཏོག་ང་ཚོ་འདིར་བཞུགས་ཉན་༿མཁན་༾ཚང་མ་ལོགས་མེ་ཏོག་ལ་དགའ་པོ་ཞེ་དྲག་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
nya gsos a 'dras {'id 'dras }byas na'i 'grig gi yo'o red{yod red }/_a ni me tog nga tsho 'dir bzhugs nyan {mkhan }tshang ma logs me tog la dga' po zhe drag yo'o red{yod red }/
It's suitable to raise fish and such. Well, everyone living here loves flowers very much.

ཨ་ནི་་་དབྱར་ཁ་ཡིན་ན་ང་ཚོ་འདའི་སྤང་བཏབ། མེ་ཏོག་སྣ་མིན་སྣ་ཚོགས་བྱས། ཨ་ནི་་་ཤུག་པ་བྱས། ཨ་འདྲས་ཟེར་རེད།
a ni dbyar kha yin na nga tsho 'da'i spang btab/_me tog sna min sna tshogs byas/_a ni shug pa byas/_a 'dras zer red/
And if it is summer, we plant the lawn here, and many kinds of flowers, and juniper, things like this.

In general, when considering the sort of style of a Tibetan's house,

མང་ཆེ་བས་ཁང་པའི་སྒེའུ་ཁུང་དེ་ལྷོ་ལ་སློགས་ཀྱི་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾ དེ་ག་རེ་ཡིན་ཟེར་ན།
mang che bas khang pa'i sge'u khung de lho la slogs kyi yo'o red{yod red }_de ga re yin zer na/
most of them have windows of the house facing south. This is because...

དགུན་ཀ་ང་ཚོ་་་་ ཨ་ནི་འོང་་་་ ཉི་མ་སྤྲོ་༿བསྲོ་༾ཡས་དང་ཨ་འདྲས་ཚང་མ་ལོགས་ཡང་ཡིན་གཅིག་མིན་གཅིག་ལྷོ་ལ་བལྟས་པ་ཡིན་ན་ ཉི་མ་དེ་ཡག་པོ་གཅིག་ཕོག་༿འཕྲོ་༾ཐུབ་ཀྱི་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
dgun ka nga tsho _a ni 'ong _nyi ma spro {bsro }yas dang a 'dras tshang ma logs yang yin gcig min gcig lho la bltas pa yin na _nyi ma de yag po gcig phog {'phro }thub kyi yo'o red{yod red }/
in the winter, we, well, keeping warm by the sun, and all such things, require that, if (the windows) face south, then this sunlight is able to shine in well.

ཨ་འདྲས་བྱེད་དུས་སྒང་ནས་ཡང་དགུན་ཀ་འདུག་ཟེ་སླེབས་དུས་འདིའི་ནང་ལ་ཨེན་་་ཉི་མ་ཞེ་དྲག་སྐྱིད་པོ་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
a 'dras byed dus sgang nas yang dgun ka 'dug ze slebs dus 'di'i nang la en nyi ma zhe drag skyid po yo'o red{yod red }/
When it's built like this, when winter comes, it is very comfotable in here with the sun.

ཡང་ཚང་མ་ལོགས་འདའི་༿འདིར་༾མཉམ་དུ་བསྡད་བྱས་འདའི། ཨ་་་ཉི་མའི་ནང་ལ་བསྡད་ཡས་ལ་སོགས་པ། ཨ་ནི་་་དེ་པར་ཁྲང་འཁྲུ་༿དྲེག་འཁྲུ་༾སྐམ་ཡས་ལ་སོགས་པ། ཚང་མ་ཨ་འདྲས་༿འདི་འདྲས་༾རེད། བྱས་ཙང་། བོད་རིགས་ཀྱི་ཁང་པ་མང་ཆེ་བའི་ནང་ལ་འདི་འདྲས་སྒོ་ར་ཆུང་ཆུང་དེ་རྒྱག་ཡས་ལ་ཞེ་དྲག་དར་སོ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡོའོ་རེད༿ཡོད་རེད་༾།
yang tshang ma logs 'da'i {'dir }mnyam du bsdad byas 'da'i/_a nyi ma'i nang la bsdad yas la sogs pa/_a ni de par khrang 'khru {dreg 'khru }skam yas la sogs pa/_tshang ma a 'dras {'di 'dras }red/_byas tsang /_bod rigs kyi khang pa mang che ba'i nang la 'di 'dras sgo ra chung chung de rgyag yas la zhe drag dar so chen po yo'o red{yod red }/
And so, we all stay together...staying in the sunshine, etc., and drying the laundry in here, all (houses) are like this.Therefore, in most of the Tibetan houses, it is very popular to build a small yard like this.
