Rang Chung from Shungthung village sings “Shar Dhi La Madro.” According to an oral account, this song was first sung by three siblings from Dungsam when they went on a pilgrimage to Bodhgaya, the site in India where Shakyamuni attained enlightenment. The song is usually performed during the Tsheku Yangku ritual, which is supposed to increase life longevity and household wealth. The song can be sung solo or in groups, in which case there can be an accompanying dance. Primarily, women dance by forming a line facing the spiritual masters in a gesture of devotion and homage. It is sung to create a positive interconnection, or tendrel, at the conclusion of festive events.  The song echoes hope and wishes for a good harvest, prosperity, a body without illnesses and a mind without worries.
