Video Overview
In this video, Kinzang narrates “The Story of Older Brother Phechung.” Once an older brother Phechung (pouch) got pricked by a thorn. He met another brother Phechung and asked him to give him a needle to remove that thorn, but brother Phechung refused to lend him the needle. Next, the older brother Phechung met a cat and told him to eat brother Phechung for his greed, but the cat refused. Later, he met a dog and told him to eat the cat for its disobedience. The dog, however, also refused. Similar encounters continued to happen: first with a wooden log, then with fire, water, and an ox, until a tiger agreed to attack the ox. Because of the ox’s fear of being killed, it agreed to drink the water. The story then follows the reverse path until brother Phechung agreed to lend his needle to the older brother Phechung. Thus, this story conveys the message that one should cultivate generosity and should never be attached to material wellbeing.
