Tashi from Dungkhar in Lhuntse district narrates the story of an old man who made tools. Long ago, there lived a man called Thakcha Gadpu and he lived his life in poverty. Thakcha Gadpo was believed to be an excellent weaving tool craftsman. He got married to a mermaid, they lived together and became very rich. Then the king of the village became envious of his success and asked to call the toolmaker tp his palace. The king asked him, “I heard there is a beautiful mermaid at your home, from where did you have her” and he answered that he got her due to it being his destiny. The king told him, “I want her as my wife, soon I will be bringing her here as my bride”. He then ordered Thakcha Gadpo to dig 20 acres of land in a day. If he could finish this task in day, he will be allowed to stay with the mermaid. She then helped Thakcha Gadpo to dig out 20 acres of land in one day. The King was not satisfied. Then he ordered to sow millet. The mermaid helped him same as before. Now the king ordered them to dip into hot water. He asked the mermaid to provide him with 105 varieties of medicine to save his life. The mermaid did so and the man was saved. The king then agreed got inside the hot water himself.  He died within five minutes. The moral of this story is that we should not be envious egoistic, taking pride of one’s own status and possession.
