The story narrated by Tshewang from Damphu in Tsirang District is about a monkey and a pheasant. It revolves around the origin of the monkey’s hairless ass and the pheasant’s red eyes; it is in this sense an origin story. In the story the two are best friends. The monkey goes to work and the hen prepares lunch. The lunch is delicious, so the monkey wants to learn how it is prepared.  The monkey peeps through a hole, while the hen climbs on the pot, hatches an egg and makes the dish. The next day the monkey sends the hen to work, and prepares the lunch, following the same procedure; but instead of an egg, shit drops in the oil and gets his ass burnt. Later he shares incident with the pheasant that, on her turn, laughs a lot. The laughing causes the pheasant’s eyes to turn red. These are the reasons the monkey has a naked ass and the pheasant red eyes.
