In this video, Jeermo from Dzamlingzor in Tsirang tells a story about a king and his two queens. The older queen did not have any children, whereas the younger queen had a son. It was obvious that this son would be the next in the royal succession. This ultimately made the older queen quite unhappy as all the king inheritance would be passed down to the younger queen’s son. Almost every sinful action ever committed can be traced back to a selfish motive. No cause occurs without effect, and no effect occurs without cause. Due to the karmic effect of her negative prayers, she suffered at the end of the story.

    Jeermo A long time ago there was a king who had two wives. Out of the two, one was his lawful wife and the other was his mistress. He did not have any children from the mistress but he had a mute son from his lawful wife. The mistress despised the mute son because he would inherit the riches and honor in the future. So when the king and his wife were away the mistress realized When the king and his wife returned, they found their crying and close to death.

    Jeermo “What happened to our son? Did you do anything to him? ” The mistress replied, “As it is I do not have any children, I treat your son with love and care. I have not harmed him. If I have harmed your child I pray that in my next life, I will eat my own child and my husband will die of snakebite.

    Everything she prayed for came true in her next life. In her next life, just as she prayed, she would have to eat her own child. She was now a nun (gomchhen). Oh I forgot to mention…her husband was also a (gomchhen). The nun (gomchhen) went to study her religion elsewhere. When she returned, she was about to give birth to a child. While the child was being born, the husband came home drunk and threatened his wife to eat the flesh of the newborn immediately. The husband refused to sympathize and the wife was forced to eat her child.

    Jeermo She ate her child and was made to eat more. Then she wished to see her parents. On her way, a trunk…I am not able to tell. I shall leave it like this: On her way to meet her parents, there was a big river. She was not able to cross the river and soon it turned dark. She slept on the riverbed with her three children. When her husband was sleeping, a snake crept into his nose, bit him and he died. Then, to cross the river with her three children, she carried one in the front, one on her back and the other she left on the riverbank. When she was dropping her two children across the river, a tiger ate the one that was left on the riverbed. And the river washed away the one she carried in the front.
  • ཇེར་མོ: ཏེ་ད་རུང་ སྒལ་ཏོག་ཁར་ འབག་མི་དེ་ཡང་ ཆུ་གིས་ འབག་ཡར་སོང་བའི་ལོ། ཏེ་མོ་ར་གཅིག་ཁ་ལྷོད་སོང་ནུག་ལོ། ལ་ཁག་སྦེ་ར་ ཆུ་ནང་ལས་ཐོན་ཏེ་ ཨ་པ་དང་ཨའི་འབད་སར་ལྷོད་ནི་འབདཝ་ད་ མི་གཅིག་དང་ཕྱད་དེ་ ག་ཏེ་འགྱོཝ་ཟེར་འདྲི་ནུག། མོ་གིས་ ཨ་པ་དང་ཨའི་ ཕྱད་པར་འགྱོའི་ཟེར་སླབ་ད་ མི་དེ་གིས་ ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་ ཨ་པ་དང་ཨའི་གི་ ཁྱིམ་རི་གིས་བསྐོར་ཏེ་ཡོད། ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་ རི་བརྒལ་མི་ཚུགས་ཟེར་སླབ་ལས་ ལོག་འོང་དགོཔ་བྱུང་ནུག།
    Jeermo The river also washed away the child on her back. She made her way across the river alone. She got out of the river with great difficulty and when she was close to her parent’s house, she met a person on the way. The person told her that she would have to cross a mountain to get to her parent’s house and that she would not be able to do so. Therefore, she gave up and turned around.
  • ཇེར་མོ: ད་རུང་ རྨགཔ་སོ་སོར་ཅིག་དང་ཕྱད་ནུག། དེ་ལས་ གཉེན་རྐྱབ་སྡོད་སྡོད་པའི་བར་ན་ར་ རྨགཔ་དེ་ཤི་སོང་མས། ཏེ་དེ་ལས་ རྨགཔ་དེ་ཤི་བའི་ཤུལ་ལུ་ གཡུས་དེ་ཁར་ལུ་ ཨམ་སྲུ་ཡང་གཅིག་ཁར་སྦེ་ མེ་བཏང་སྲོལ་ཡོད་ལས་ གཅིག་ཁར་མེ་གིས་ བཏང་ད་ནུ། ཏེ་མོ་དེ་ མ་ཤིཝ་འབད་ནི་དེ་གིས་ ཕར་དང་ཚུར་སྤརཝ་དང་ཐགཔ་ཆད་དེ་ མེ་ནང་ལས་ཐོན་ཡར་སོང་མས།
    Jeermo She found another husband and they were married. Soon, the husband died. In that village, it was customary to burn the widow along with the body of the dead husband, so she was burnt along with him. As she was still alive, she moved here and there and the rope with which she was tied broke. She escaped from the fire.

    Jeermo Then she went to the side of the road. She did not have any clothes so she hid unclothed. While she was hiding naked, two monks saw her and asked, “Lady, what are you doing down there? Come up.” The woman replied, “I have no clothes on, so I cannot come up.”
  • ཇེར་མོ: ཏེ་དགེ་སློང་གཉིསཔ་དེ་ སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ སློབ་མ་ཨིནམ་ལས་ སངས་རྒྱས་ལུ་ ཨ་མ་ཅིག་ཕར་ འནཱེ་སྦེ་སྡོད་ནུག་ཟེར་ ཞུ་ནུག། ཏེ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱིས་ ཨམ་དེ་ ཁྱིད་ཤོག་ཟེར་ བགོ་ལ་ཡང་་གནང་སྦེ་བཏང་ནུག། དེ་ལས་དགེ་ལོང་གཉིས་ཀྱི་ ཁྱིད་སངས་རྒྱས་ཞུ་སར་ཕྱག་འདི་ མོའི་དཀའ་ངལ་བྱུང་མི་ག་རང་བཤེད་འདི་ཞུ་ད་ལུ།
    Jeermo The two monks were followers of the Buddha and told the Buddha about the woman hiding in that manner. The Buddha gave the monks some clothes and told them to call the woman. The two monks took her to the Buddha and she told him about all her struggles.

    Jeermo As this was the real Buddha, he was aware of her past actions and said, “Your struggles are a result of the sins of your past life. It is the result of what you prayed for in your past life.” She now understood that she should not resort to sinful actions. That is the end.
