This story has many iterations in Bhutan, but each is marked by a twisted sense of humor. An old couple plants rice, but grasshoppers infest the crops, destroying them. The old man arms himself with a bow and arrow and goes with the old woman to the field to chase the grasshoppers. One of the insects lands on the throat of the old woman. She points to the insect on her throat and the old man shoots his arrow, killing his wife. In Bumthang, there is a similar story about crops of buckwheat that are plagued by butterflies.
