Tingchula from Pang village in Tashiyangtse district narrates a story called "King and Mithun", which he learned from his grandfather Zangla. It revolves around kings and their mithun. Zangla used to share this story after the family finished eating and when they were collecting firewood. These days the youth have little interest in listening to these stories.

    ཧེ་མ་ཧེ་མ་ ང་བཅས་མན་གདུང་བེ་ཆ་ཟེར་ཡོད་ལགས། མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་ཟེར་ཡོད་ལགས། ཧེ་མ་བ་མེན་ཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ་ལགས། དེ་ལས་ ནཱ་སྤང་ལས་གླང་དང་རྒྱལཔོ་ཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ། གླ་དང་རྒྱལཔོ་ལུ་ བ་མེན་ཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ། དེ་ལས་དུང་དཀར་བེ་ཆ་ལུ་ རྒྱལཔོ་ཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ། དུང་དཀར་བེ་ཆའི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་བ་མེན་ཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ།
    Once there lived a King called Mandhung Becha. He had a mithun. Again there lived a king in Tokadung under Pang, who had a mithun. There too lived a king known as Dungkhar Becha. He also had a mithun.

    དེ་ལས་ ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་ རྒྱལཔོ་གཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ། ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་བ་མེན་ཅིག་སྡོད་ཡི་ལོ། ཁོང་བཞི་འགྲན་བསྡུར་འབད་དེ་ མར་མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་ཟེར་བའི་ ཧེ་མ་ མར་ལུ་གནམ་མེད་ས་མེད་ཐང་སྦོམ་ཅིག་སྡོད་སྡོདཔ་མས། དང་ཕུ་ ཏེ་མི་སྦོམ་ཚུ་གིས་ཨ་ནཱི་སྦེ་སླབ་མས།
    There also lived a king at Kotaphu village having mithun. The four mithun use to fight in the big flat plain. This is said by an elder people.

    འ་ནཱི་ཐང་སྦོམ་ནང་ བ་མེན་བཞི་ མར་འཛིང་བར་སོང་སྟེ། འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་ཡི་ འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་དོ་ཡོདཔ་མས། འཛིངམ་ད་ལུ་ ཧེ་མ་ར་ མན་དུང་བེ་ཆའི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་བ་མེན་དང་ ཏོ་ཀ་དོང་གི་བ་མེན་གཉིས་འཛིང་སྟེ་ ཏོ་ཀ་དོང་རྒྱལ་པོའི་བ་མེན་ཕམ་སྦེ་ བསད་ཅི་ལོ་ལགས།
    The mithun use to fight in the big ground. At the beginning, there was a fight between the mithun of Mandhung Becha and mithun of Tokadhong in which Tokadhong mithun was killed.

    Then the mithun belonging to the kings of Madungbecha and Dungkhar was left. The two mithuns fought and Dungkhar king’s mithun lost the fight.

    Then the mithun that stood first and second was made to fight each other again. Tokaphu’s mithun and Mandungbecha’s mithun then had a fight. The mithun fought each other and the herder lost track of the mithun.

    ད་ང་བཅས་བ་མེན་འདི་ ག་ཏེ་ཡར་སོངཔ་ཨིན་ན་ཡར་སོང་ནུག མིན་འདུག་ཟེར། ཡར་དུང་དཀར་་་་ འ་ནཱི་ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་བ་མེན་ འ་ནཱི་ཇོ་བདག་གིས་འཚོལ་འཚོལཝ་མས། འཚོལཝ་ད་ལུ་ མ་པ་ལས་མ་ཐོབ་པར་ཕྱི་རུ་འོངམ་ད་ ཉམས་ཤོར་སུ་ཅིག་སྦེ་འོང་དེས་ ཡ་ད་བ་མེན་ཕོཝ་མ་འགྲངམ་པས་ ཟེར་སླབ་སླབ་མས། སླབ་སྦེ་ ག་ཏེ་འགྱོཝ་ཨིན་ན་འགྱོ་དོ་འོང་ནི་མས་ཟེར།
    The kings lost their mithun and wondered where they went. The king of Tokaphu searched his mithun but it was nowhere to be found. “The mithun returned back at night hungry. I wonder where it went,” he thought.

    ཁོང་མ་པ་ལས་ར་མི་ཤེས་དོཝ་མས། མ་ཤེས་པར་ ཤུལ་ལས་ཤུལ་ལས་ ཁོག་གིས་རྣམ་ཅོ་ཉན་བལྟཝ་ད་ ཏེ་ད་ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་བ་མེན་ མར་མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་གི་རྒྱལ་པོ་ཟེར་མི་གི་བ་མེན་དང་གཅིག་ཁར་འཛིང་པར་འོང་དོ་ཟེར། མར་གྱི་རྒྱལཔོ་གིས་ ཨ་ནཱི་སྦེ་གསུངས་དེས་ ཟེར་སླབ་སླབ་ཨིན་པས།
    The king did not know where it went. Later he heard that his mithun went to fight with Mandungmecha king’s mithun.

    ཡ་དེན་ འ་ནཱི་སྦེ་ཨིནམ་འོང་ནི་མས་སྨོ་ཟེར་མནོ་སྟེ་སྡོད་སྡོདཔ་ཨིན་པས། ཨ་ནཱི་སྦེ་མནོ་སྟེ་ ཤུལ་ལས་འཛིང་སྟེ། ཨ་ནཱ་ལས་ བདུན་ཕྲག་གཅིག་ ཉིནམ་བདུན་བརྒྱད་དགུ་བཅུ་ཐམ་འབདཝ་ད་ ཏེ་མ་པ་ལས་ར་མ་ཤེས་པར་ ཉིནམ་དགུ་འབདཝ་ད་ ཧ་ལམ་ཤེས་ཤེསཔ་ཨིན་པས། ཡ་ཡ་ཨིན་པས་ད་ ཕོཝ་མི་འགྲངས་པས་ཟེར་ ད་ང་ཡང་བ་མེན་ ལེན་པར་གཏང་དགོ་པས་ཟེར།
    The king thought that may be this is the reason. The king kept on thinking and days and week passed without knowing the reason why the cattle went there. The king decided to fetch his cattle back.

    ད་ཡར་གྱི་ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་ ཏོ་ཀ་དོང་གི་འ་ནཱི་ ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་བ་མེན་གྱི་ ཏེ་མགུ་ཏོག་གུ་གྱི་ཅུང་སྒྲོ་གཟུགསམ་བཏགས་ཏེ་ [གེམ་ཏེ?] ང་བཅས་ར་ པ་ཏང་རིངམོ་ གྱི་རིང་རིངམོ་གཉིས་བཏགས་ཏེ་ [གེམ་ཏེ?]བཏང་བཏངམ་ཨིནམ་པས། [གེམ་ཏེ?]བཏང་སྦེ་ ཉིནམ་བཅུ་ཐམ་འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་ཡི་ དེ་ལས་ཨ་ནཱ་ལས་ གོ་ལེ་འབད་རྟིང་བདའ་སྟེ་འོང་འོངམ་མས། ཡར་གྱི་ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་ རྒྱལ་པོ་གིས་བྱོན་བྱོནམ་མས།
    The king of Tokaphu then hanged a knife on mithun’s horn and sent it. The two cattle fought for ten days. The king also followed the cattle.

    རྟིང་བདའ་སྟེ་བྱོནམ་སྦེ་ མར་མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་རྒྱལཔོ་གིས་ བ་མེན་ཨ་ནཱ་ལས་བཏང་སྟེ་ མར་གནམ་མེད་ས་མེད་ མར་མཚོ་ནང་ལས་ ཡར་ཐོན་ཏེ་ གནམ་མེད་ས་མེད་མཚོ་ནང་ལས་ཐོན་ཏེ་ བ་མེན་ཉམས་ཡོདཔ་ཨིན་པས། ཉམས་ཡོདཔ་ལས་ ཨ་མར་འཛིང་འཛིངམ་མས། འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་ཡི་འཛིང་ཡི་ཉིནམ་གཅིག་འཛིང་བཏངམ་ད་ ཨ་ནཱ་ལས་ཏེ་ ཉིནམ་དགུང་སྦེ་འཛིང་སྟེ་ [བྲག་པ་དུན་ཟུ་དུང་ཟུ?]འབད་དོ་ཨིན་མས་ཏེ་ མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་གིས།
    The mandhung Bache’s mithun was send down where he had a fight with a mithun that had came out from the lake.

    བ་མེན་ [བྲག་པ་དུན་ཟུ་དུང་ཟུ་?] ཨ་ནཱི་དྲག་པས་དྲག་པས་ཟེརཝ་ད་ ཏེ་ཡར་གྱི་ འ་ནཱི་ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གིས་ འ་ནཱི་སྦེ་མེན་པས་ད་ ང་གིས་བ་མེན་གསོ་སྟེ་གཏང་དགོ་པས་ཟེར། ནངས་པར་བཟུམ་ཅིག་ཁར་ གནམ་མད་ས་མེད་གསོ་སྟེ་གཏང་དོཝ་མས་ཏེ། དོད་རིལ་རི་བཟོ་སྟེ་ དོད་རིལ་རི་བཟོ་བཏང་སྦེ་ ཏེ་སྒྲོ་གཟུགསམ་བ་མེན་གྱི་མགུ་ཏོ་གུར་སྒྲོ་གཟུགསམ་བཏགས་ཏེ་ མར་བཏང་སྦེ་འཛིངམ་ད་ལུ་ མར་རྟིང་བདའ་འགྱོཝ་སྦེ་ འཛིངམ་ད།
    When the mithun was about to win, the Tokaphu King said,” It is not like this. Now we have to make our mithun strong enough”. The next day, mithun was send by fixing a knife on the horn.

    འཛིང་སྟེ་ཡུདཔ་ཅིག་ལས་ ཕྱི་རུ་འབདཝ་ད་ ཉིནམ་བཅུ་ཐམ་འབདཝ་ད་ འཛིང་སྟེ་ མར་འ་ནཱི་ མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གིས་ བ་མེན་ཟེར་མི་གིས་ མར་འ་ནཱི་མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་གི་(བ་མེན་) བྱག་གུ་ལས་འཕུལ་བཀོ་ཡི་ལོ། ཏེ་ཡར་ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་བ་མེན་རྒྱལ་ཡི་ལོ་ལགས།
    On the eve of tenth day, the Mangdhung King’s mithun was pushed - off from the cliff. So the mithun of Tokaphu was the winner.

    བ་མེན་རྒྱལ་སྦེ་ མར་བྱག་གུ་ལས་མར་འཕུལ་བཏངམ་ད་ དུང་དུང་དུང་བཏང་ རྩ་བར་འབུད་འགྱོ་འགྱོཝ་མས། ཏེ་འབུད་འགྱོཝ་ད་ རྩ་བར་འབུད་འགྱོཝ་སྦེ་ ཏེ་ད་ ང་བཅས་ཕར་གྱི་ གཡུས་ཀྱི་སྤང་ཟེར་ས་ལུ་ ཆུ་ཕར་ལོགས་ཟེར་ཡོད་ལགས། ཆུ་ཕར་གྱི་འདི་ འ་ནཱི་ ཆུ་ཕར་ལོགསམ་གི་མི་ཚུ་གིས་ ཡ་ཏེ་ད་ མན་དུང་བེ་ཆ་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་བ་མེན་ ཨ་ནཱ་ལས་མར་ རྦོབ་རིལ་ཡར་སོ་ཡི་ཟེར། ད་ཁོ་རང་ ཇོ་བདག་གིས་མ་མཐོང་ ཟེར་སླབ་སླབ་ཨིན་པས་ལགས།
    When the mithun fell from the cliff, it made a noise. At that time, the villager of thither side of river, Chu Pharlok, could hear that noise and said that the mithun of Mandhung fell from the cliff.

    ཨ་ནཱི་མ་མཐོང་ཟེརཝ་ཅིག་ མར་ཁོང་ཤ་དྲ་ནི་ཟེར་ མར་ལས་ཁོང་ཚུ་འོང་འོངམ་ཨིན་པས། ཁོང་མར་ཤ་དྲ་ནི་ཟེར་ མར་ཆུ་ནང་ལྷོདཔ་ད་ འ་ནཱི་བ་མེན་མེན་པར་ དང་པོ་ང་བཅས་ར་གི་ གཏམ་ཡོད་མེན་ན་ཏེ་ བ་མེན་མེན་པར་ འ་ནཱི་སྦུལམ་ཆེ་སྡོད་སྡོདཔ་མས་ལགས། དང་ཕུ་ འ་ནཱི་མཚོ་ནང་ལས་ཡར་ཐོན་མི་སྦུལམ་ཆེ་ ཏོ་ཀ་དོང་གྱི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་སྦུལམ་ཆེ་ཨིན་པས།
    They said that the owner did not see or notice it. So they came to take the meat. When they reach near the shore, it was not the mithun rather it was water buffalo. The mithun of Tokadhong was also water Buffalo.

    ཏོ་ཀ་དོང་གྱི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་ཡང་ སྦུལམ་ཆེ་ཨིན་པས། དུང་དཀར་བེ་ཆ་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་ཡང་ སྦུལམ་ཆེ་ཨིན་པས། ཏེ་ཡར་ཏོ་ཀ་ཕུག་གི་རྒྱལཔོ་གི་ཡང་ སྦུལམ་ཆེ་སྡོད་སྡོདཔ་ཨིན་མས། འ་ནཱི་ སྦུལམ་ཆེ་ ཁོང་ཆ་ཁྱབ་ མར་རྩ་བར་ལྷོདཔ་ད་ ཤ་མེན་པར་ འ་ནཱི་ སྦུལམ་ཆེ་འདུག་ལོ།
    All the mithun were water or sea buffalo. According to the legend, it was water or sea buffalo, when they watch it closely.

    When the water or sea buffalo pushed-off the buffalo, In the past, there was a lake at Mandhung. The lake has dried after the falling of a mithun. It was said by the elder people in the past. We did not know about it. Okey.
