Daw Dem and Dorjim from Jangsagang village sing an offering song performed during Bongku (a local festival). It is dedicated to the local deities of the village, such as Taksa Gam, that are reflected in the lyrics of the song yet not every local deity is mentioned in it. Bongku is a local festival of warriors with the intent to suppress evil and supplicate local deities with the hope to achieve peace and prosperity. This festival is conducted in most of the villages of Tseza Gewog (county) in Dagana Dzongkhag (district). The lyrics of the song summon local deities and dakinis (spirits in Vajrayana Buddhism, somewhat comparable to fairies or imps) to gather on the festival grounds. Annual offerings are made for prosperity and good health of the community.
