A Zhungdra (Bhutanese classical long tune) song called "Tshenden Tshogpai Tshoglu" was first composed by Tango Choeje Tshewang Tenzin upon the arrival of Tibetan Lama Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to Bhutan during the 17th century. Today it is widely popular throughout Bhutan. The song was first performed and sung as a welcoming song by the people of Wang, Chang and Kabji in what is now known as Thimphu valley, upon the arrival of Zhabdrung. The people offered this melodious Zhungdra song in his honor. Though it is still widely popular in Bhutan, it is quite a challenging song to sing. This has reduced the current popularity of Zhungdra as opposed to Rigsar (modern Bhutanese music). Tshenden Tshogpai Tshoglu is a line dance and sung during the visit of important religious saints and personalities to the village. Each song is meant for a different purpose, and this one is meant to arouse hopes and wishes for a good harvest, abundant rainfall and tranquility for the community's families.
