Video Overview
The renowned and versatile singer Nyimchu Pem from Trongsa district composed a song called "Lay Dagpa Chidang Madag Nyi". She was active during the reign of the third king of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Today different singers have slightly changed the lyrics of the song. It has five stanzas, describing how the singer goes for religious practice, leaving behind sons, a daughter and other relatives at home. This song was often sung by herders while spending days on the pasturelands, letting their cattle graze.
༉ རྩི་རང་རྫོང་ཁག་མནྡྲལ་སྒང་ལས་སྒྲོལ་མ་གིས་འཐེན་མི་ ལས་དག་པ་གཅིག་དང་མ་དག་གཉིས་ཟེར་མི་གླུ་གཞས་འདི་ རྒྱལ་ཁབ་ཀྱི་ས་གནས་ག་ཏེ་ལུ་ཡང་འཐེན་སྲོལ་ཡོད་པའི་གླུ་གཞས་ཡོངས་གྲགས་ཅིག་ཨིན། གླུ་གཞས་ཀྱི་ཚིག་དང་གདངས་དབྱངས་འདི་ ཀྲོང་གསར་ལས་ཨམ་ཉིན་ཅུ་པདྨ་གིས་བརྩམས་བརྩམས་ཨིནམ་ད་ མོ་ར་འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་གསུམ་པའི་སྐབས་ལས་ར་ གླུ་གཞས་འཐེན་མི་སྐད་ཅན་མིང་ཅན་ཅིག་ཨིན། ཨིན་རུང་ ད་རེས་ནངས་པའི་གླུ་གཞས་འཐེན་མི་སོ་སོ་ཚུ་གིས་ གླུ་གཞས་ཀྱི་ཚིག་ཚུ་ཨ་ཙི་རེ་བསྒྱུར་བཅོས་འབད་དེ་འཐེན་དོ་ཡོདཔ་ད་ གླུ་གཞས་འདི་ནང་ ཕམ་སྤུན་ཆ་དང་གཉེན་ཉེཝ་ཚུ་བཀོ་བཞག་སྟེ་ དམ་པའི་ཆོས་བསྒྲུབ་པར་འགྱོ་ནི་ ཟེར་འཐེནམ་ཨིན་པས།
- སྒྲོལ་མ་ Demaཨོཾ་མོ་ཨོཾ་མོ་མ་ཎི་ལ་པདྨེ་ཧཱུཾ། ཡང་སུ་(?)དམ་པའི་ཆོས་ལ་དབའི་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི། ལས་དག་པ་གཅིག་དང་ལ་མ་དག་གཉིས། ལས་མ་དག་སྤྲང་མོ་དབའི་ང་རང་ཡིན། །I take refuge of the Dharma. Amidst fortunate one and unfortunate, I am the unfortunate one.
- སྒྲོལ་མ་ Demaཚོགས་བསགས་པའི་གཅིག་དང་ལ་མ་བསགས་གཉིས། ཚོགས་མ་བསགས་སྤྲང་མོ་དབའི་ང་རང་ཡིན། བཞེས་བང་ཆ་གཅིག་མེ་ཏོག་དབའི་པད་མ་འདྲ། །Among those who have accumulated merits and who have not, I am the one who have accumulated no merits. The pair of plates is like a pair of lotus flower.
- སྒྲོལ་མ་ Demaམེ་ཏོག་པད་མ་བཞག་ནས་ལ་ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། ཞལ་དཀར་ཆ་གཅིག་གསེར་གྱི་དབའི་ཏིག་པ་(?)འདྲ། གསེར་གྱི་ཏིག་པ་བཞག་ནས་ལ་ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། །Renouncing the pair of flower, i choose Dharma. And pair of cup resembles the droplet of gold. Denouncing the droplet of gold, i shall embrace Dharma.
- སྒྲོལ་མ་ Demaསྲས་དང་སྲས་མོ་ཉི་མ་དབའི་ཟླ་བ་འདྲ། ཉི་མ་ཟླ་བ་བཞག་ནས་ལ་ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། ཉེ་བ་གཉེན་འཁོར་ནམ་མཁའ་དབའི་སྐར་མ་འདྲ།My son and daughter are like sun and moon. Leaving sun and moon like child behind, i am going for Dharma. My relatives are like stars in the sky.
- སྒྲོལ་མ་ Demaནམ་མཁའི་སྐར་མ་བཞག་ནས་ལ་ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། ཨོཾ་མོ་ཨོཾ་མོ་མ་ཎི་ལ་པདྨེ་ཧཱུཾ། ཡང་སུ་(?)དམ་པའི་ཆོས་ལ་དབའི་ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། ཆོས་ལ་འགྲོ། ། འ་ནེམ་ཅིག་ཨིན་ལགས།Leaving stars like relatives behind i am going to lead religious life.
