Lozey ballads represent an important means for the expression of feelings between friends, lovers, enemies and so forth. In this video, Rinzin Dem narrates “On the Sky Mattress” (Namgung Lé Denpé Choklu), a ballad that speaks of lovers who have parted from each other and long to be reunited. In the verses, two stars long to be together, but a series of obstacles prevent them from reuniting. The ballad expresses the aspiration that they meet again in the future. The verses in this ballad use figurative speech that can be difficult to understand nowadays.
