Chandra Maya Suralee and Krishna Maya Gotamay, two elderly locals of Gairegoan village in Tsirang Dzongkhag (district), perform the Sanginee. This a “lhotsam,” which according to the two performers, is a kind of farewell song traditionally sung by mothers when their daughters leave home as a new bride. It is said that the song and its accompanying dance is a form of advice to the newly married couple from the mothers of the village.
