The 'chibdral' is a traditional Bhutanese welcoming ceremony conducted in special occasions to honor guests. The notion of auspiciousness is a very strong motivator for Bhutanese people. It is thought that any important event (marriage, promotion etc.) needs to have an auspicious beginning in order for it to be a positive experience. There are different levels of chibdral processions that are performed depending on the importance of the event and the rank of the honoree. This video shows a chibdral performed in Kheng Buli in Zhemgang district. This is the simplest type of chibdral procession to welcome a lama who is the head of the monastery, and it is practiced in this region before the beginning of the third day of the Buli Chodpa ritual.
