Sangay Choden from Radhi Gewog, Tashigang, sings an old Zhungdra song entitled Drukpi Pungthang Dechen. The song describes Punakha Fortress and compares its beauty with mother nature. In the old days, only the people of Punakha District performed this song, on special occasions and celebrations inside the Punakha Fortress. Now this song is performed throughout the country. Though the composer of the song is unknown, the lyrics indicate that the song was composed in the 17th century, during the time of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The song is performed in a straight line formation of around five to twenty dancers.
