Video Overview
Human movements such as running and jumping are enhanced when the muscle-tendon units are stretched immediately before contracting. This is called the stretch-shortening cycle.
My project aims to determine the contribution of elastic energy to stretch-shortening cycle performance and the factors affecting it, providing insight into locomotion efficiency.
It may also advise training programs for athletes, which must be appropriate for the unique attributes of individuals to prevent injury or burnout.
Unfortunately, the transfer of sports science to training programs is hindered by its conflict with traditional coaching methods.
My STS project aims to help understand this conflict by investigating how coaches perceive the application of sports science research. With this insight, research may be presented in a way that allows coaches to design individual-specific programs, preventing improper training.
