Seldon from Kagtong village explains how a dangling spirit is propitiated. Dangling is a lake spirit in the form of a water serpent that is worshipped as a local god, or a god of wealth. Seldon says that after milking the cows, the milk should be first offered to the dangling before it is given to any other recipient. The same applies to processing milk into butter and cheese. The butter and cheese has to be first offered to the dangling spirit before it is stored away for consumption or selling. Besides these daily rituals, there are also other recitations and practices to propitiate this spirit according to both Buddhist and pre-Buddhist traditions.
