Before rice was introduced to the Dophu area, foxtail millet used to be the main cereal cultivated by locals. In this video, Lhamo prepares a foxtail millet dish. She brings water to a boil, and adds the millet. Lhamo does not specify the amount of water used to cook the millet, but she says that once the water is completely evaporated, it is ready. Before serving, the first portion is always offered to the Buddhas and deities; a small portion of the food is put on a plate and placed in the house’s shrine room.
