Sung in the New Boedra style, this song captures the sorrow of a soldier who feels fortunate to be born as a human male, but unfortunate that he had to become a soldier, leaving a spiritual life to do battle. In melancholy, the soldier wishes that his soldierly world were a realm of spirituality instead. He wishes that the orders from his general were teachings from a lama (spiritual master), his military uniform a lama’s robe, his fellow soldiers his spiritual friends, his helmet a lama’s hat, the gun in his hands a lama’s walking stick, the ammunition pack he carries on his back a lama’s amulet, his combat boots a lama’s footwear, and his military belt a lama’s belt.
