Seldon prepares alcohol known as ara using home distillation. A cylindrical pot is filled with fermented mash, and a tripod is placed over it. On top of the tripod is placed a smaller pot with a little amount of water to collect condensed drops of alcohol coming from the mash. A damp cloth is placed between it and anothe cold water pot to cover the gap between them. After that, the small container inside the cylindrical pot has to be checked to see whether or not it is full, and to test the taste of the alcohol. Finally, Seldon explains that the fire should never be high otherwise it would overcook the mash. In that case, the mash would overflow into the container inside the cylindrical pot, ruining the ara.
