A local lay monk from Mendrelgang village in Pemagatshel district narrates a story about two smart friends, a frog and a tiger. It seems to be a popular story in the eastern part of Bhutan. The tiger wanted to eat the frog, but the frog was clever and already aware of his friend's murderous intent. After having eaten a wild board they killed, the tiger asked the frog if he should scratch his head and clean lice from his body. But the smart frog replied he would like to clean the tiger first. As he scratched the tiger's body, he plucked some hairs and nails within his teeth and some in his ass. Later the frog asked his friend what kind of meats the tiger eats. The tiger responded that he even eats grass when he cannot find any meat. The tiger asked the same question in return. The frog said that he even eats tigers when he gets them. They looked at each other's teeth and the tiger had grass in between his. The frog however showed lots of tiger hairs. This frightened the tiger into running away, thinking that the frog planned to eat him instead.
