A prophecy foretold that the great Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal would come to Bhutan. In 1616, he was compelled to flee Tibet. Following visions in which the chief guardian deities of Bhutan offered him a home, Zhabdrung established a new base in western Bhutan. It is said that when this master came to the country, the Bhutanese people sang the zhungdra song “How Qualified Masters Gather."
