Hoisting a flag on one’s rooftop is a unique tradition practiced in the western part of the country, especially among the Ngalop community. The flag is hoisted mainly to repel misfortune and obstacles for the family. The flag is hoisted in three different colors based on a ritualistic sequence. This indicates whether or not a particular household has performed its annual rites.

- དགའ་ལེགས Galleyང་བཅས་ར་ ཁྱིམ་གྱི་སྐོར་ལས་ཨིན་མས་ལགས། ཁྱིམ་དར་གྱི་སྐོར་ལས་ལགས། འ་ནི་ཁྱིམ་དེ་ཡང་ སྟེ་ད་ང་བཅས་ར་ དར་ཨ་ནི་ ས་ལྷང་པའི་ནམ་དུས་འདི་ནང་ལས་ར་ ང་བཅས་དར་དཀརཔོ་འདི་ སྟེ་ད་་་་ དར་གཅིག་སྦུག་ལུ་འཕྱར་དགོ་གསེས་ཞུ་ནི། འ་ནི་གནམ་འདི་ གནམ་འདི་ཧནམོ་ཨིན། བར་འདི་སེརཔོ་ཨིན། མཇུག་ལུ་དམརཔོ་ཨིན་ལགས།It's all about our houses and rooftop flags. Before the home is constructed we conduct a ceremony first, wherein we hoist a white flag in the middle of the plat. That flag divides into three parts: the first part is sky (blue flag), the second part must be a red flag and the third part must be yellow.

If that does not happen then negative effects can result.

Because our deity is red. And the soil is yellow. These flags should not be planted if the annual ritual has not been completed.

A red sword is printed red, and in the middle of the sword one has to print white color moon also and a yellow sun.

If there was no flag on the rooftop, people may consider that particular house as haunted as the homeowner is obviously not doing the rituals appropriately.

Hoisting the flag on the rooftop indicates that the particular house has done with their annual ritual.
