The principal of the Nobgang monastic school narrates the history of the temple, also providing a historical background for the Nobgang village. He tells us that the 9th Je Khenpo Sacha Rinchen, the chief abbot of the central monastic body of Bhutan between 1744 and 1755, once saw a sparkling light at the place where Nobgang is now located. Je Sacha was then residing in a hermitage situated at the location where Jachung Karmo Nunnery would be built later. At that time, the area where he saw the sparkling light was a forest. He sent two of his attendants to check the source of the light. Despite visiting the place several times, his attendants did not find anything out of the ordinary. Subsequently, Je Sacha himself decided to investigate the area, finding there a precious gem. Accordingly, he named the place Norbugang, the “Gem Hill.” Locals call it “Nobgang” for short. Later he built a temple known as “Tshuklakhang” on the site where he found the gem. Gradually his followers moved to the surrounding area, which grew into the village that we know today.

It was during the reign of 9th Je Shakya Rinchen and Bjyachung Karmo resident as two lama Ngawang Pekar while living with spiritual friend with Bjyachung Kamo looking in evening through his place.

- བསྟན་འཛིན་ Tenzin;ཏེ་མར་རྒྱུན་འདི་འབད་བ་ཅིན་ ང་བཅས་ཀྱིས་ ཉེར་དགུ་ལུ་ ཏེ་ད་ མར་མགོན་ཨིན་པས། མགོན་པའི་དུས་ཆེན་ཨིན་པས། འདི་ནང་ལུ་ཡང་ ང་བཅས་ མགོནམ་དེ་སྦེ་ གཏང་འདི་སྦེ་ ཏེ་ལོ་གཅིག་ལུ་ ད་ནཱ་མར་ རིམ་པ་བཞིན་དུ་སྦེ་ ཏེ་ནཱེ་སྦེ་ར་ བཟུམ་བཟུམ་ས་ར་ཡོད་ཟེར་ ཞུ་ནི་ཨིན་ལགས།།on margyen it falls on 29th day of everymonth this and it is also occassion of destitute and like wise yearly it follows like this only.
