Choden, a Bhutanese folklore singer from Trongsa District, performs the old boedra song “Drölma Michak Drölma Chak” at the Karma Studio in Thimphu. This song describes the abodes of natural elements, animals, and important persons. It says that the sun shines in the sky; the snow lion stays in the high mountains; the stag is in the beautiful meadow; the golden fish swims in the lake; the religious masters live in the monasteries; the kings in the fortresses; and parents in the countryside. Although the title of this song speaks of “Drölma” or “Dema,” it is not clear whether it is referring to an ordinary woman or to Tara Dema, the Buddhist deity.
