In Bhutan, people mainly cultivate nine types of cereal, which are grown in different parts of the country. In addition to these nine main cereals, people in the Kheng region cultivate on a limited scale a type of cereal known as run, or foxtail millet. Though formerly grown for food, now it is used to make liquor, though it is rarely cultivated. This crop is normally harvested in May and offered during the Der Chöd Festival, where people make liquor from the first harvest, and then give the yields of subsequent harvests as an offering for the festival. In this video, we see Kheng villagers harversting fox millet.
