The two women, Dema Zangmo and Jigme Zangmo from Kholomri village under Dechenling gewog in Pemagatshel, beat the rice in the stone mortar to remove husk.  The mortar comes in various shapes and is made of various materials like hardwood and stone. In recent years, the availability of grinding machines has almost eliminated the use of large mortar amd pestle from active use.
