Gai' is a mother cow and considered as a sacred animal. During the Gai Tihar festival, Hindus worship the cow and apply tika to a cow's forehead as well as hang a flower garland around her neck. The cow signifies prosperity and wealth. The cow is revered as a mother and is sacred for the Hindus. During the Diwali festival with spectacular lighting, the women of Lhotsham in southern Bhutan sing a song called "Bhailoni". A group of women get together and sing Bhailoni door-to-door, blessing the house and family in return for money and refreshments.
