Tshampa Samten sings “In the Land of Samye” (Samyekyi Sala), a zhungdra song well-known in Talo, Punakha. Believed to have been originally composed to celebrate the construction of the Talo Monastery by Zhabdrung Jigme Drakpa (1791-1830), the song associates parts of the monastery construction to different years. It says that in the rat year, ground was broken naturally as a rodent burrowed in the earth. In the bull year, the foundation was laid as sturdy as a bull; in the tiger year, the door was erected as straight as a tiger; in the dragon year, ceiling planks were laid across the building like a dragon, and so on. The song indicates that Jikme Drakpa associated his new monastery in Talo with Samye in Tibet.
