The principal of Nobgang Monastic School describes the iconography of the female deity Tashi Tsheringma, who has a special relationship to the community of Nobgang, Punakha, and the local Zimchung Gongma Temple. Tashi Tsheringma is described as a white female deity with one face and two arms. Her right hand holds a golden nine-pronged vajra, and her left, a longevity vase ornamented with an auspicious scarf knot and a swastika. Her mount is a white snow-lioness. Tsheringma is regarded as chief among all the powerful earth goddesses. People from Nobgang village consider her as their “birth deity,” the deity especially connected to their locality. The narrator shares with us the story of a man from Nobgang who met five beautiful ladies and later found them out to be the five long-life sisters.
