The song “Every Bamboo that Grows” (Numa Kerig Ketse) is sung here by Kuenga Wangmo from Trongsa District. The song explains the sacredness of a special kind of bamboo, tsari numa, which is used for making arrows and weaving clothes. The lyrics to the song say that, if one were to talk about the growth, cutting and bundling of this exceptional bamboo, one should refer first to a sacred place called Tsari and its cliffs, on which every one of its shoots grows. Even though this sacred bamboo should not be cut, if one must do so, it is necessary to observe precise procedures. One should cut the tsari numa with the thought that one is subduing one’s enemies. This is how people are reminded of the sacredness of this bamboo through this song.
