The National Day of Bhutan is celebrated annually on December 17th throughout the country, with singing and dancing as the main forms of cultural entertainment. In 2014, women of Laya — here seen in typical local dress — performed the song and dance called "Dzongchu Nyo Na Nyo" on the sports grounds of Gasa Dzongkhag. This particular song and dance combination is performed standing in a line rather than a circle or other formation. It is also mostly performed by women, though sometimes men join the performance. The song is classified as Zhungdra ("central tune") as it has a long and slow tempo. It is also known as a Dangrim, which means either "long tune" or, when accompanied by dance, "the song that is performed standing in a line".
