Jangchub Wangmo from Nganglam village sings a sorrow song. This kind of alo, or “melancholy song,” is mostly sung in eastern parts of Bhutan, and is never performed alongside a dance. The lyrics say, “I did not want to sing the sorrow song, but my throat badly wanted to sing it… The sun may be shining for some, but it is setting for others… I pray that one day may we meet again in the Western Pure Land, after sadly departing from each other.”
