In this video, a single performer dances while wearing a Dorji Droley mask. Dorji Droley is a wrathful manifestation of Guru Rinpoche, and the dance symbolizes his subjugation of the land. Before the main performance, a person wearing a grotesque mask tries to imitate the movements of the masked dancers. This figure is known as Atsara, a comedic character that usually entertains the crowds at the Tshechu Festival. During performances, they keep an eye on the dancers and help them if needed. They help the dancers, for instance, if there is a problem with their props and dresses. Since Atsaras are well versed in masked dances, if they see any mistake during the performances, they also help the dancers in their choreography.
