Kula Shekar Paykurel from Lekidthang in Gelephu District performs the yearly ritual called “chandri puja” (Dzo. can dri pu ja). According to the Buddhist tradition, this ritual is done every year to ease one’s misfortunes and bad luck in life. Such rituals are practiced in the Hindu religion as well. However, only a few families of the Hindu community in Bhutan practice this puja. In the evening after the puja is done, the family invites their neighbors as guests and offers a ritual feast (Dzo. tshogs), shelroti and other delicious foods, tea, and alcohol.
