Rinchen from Bongo Gewog (county) in Chukha district, recites two different ballads of a type that are used to open a recitation, especially when one wants to start an enmity ballad with another person. During the old days people would recite ballads while working in the field or during their leisure time. People with intelligent speaking skills compose their own ballads according to whatever situation they're in and they choose this as their means of communicating their thoughts and feelings. They insult, express love and sadness through ballads. The ballads can be short or long but it is not sung with tunes like tsangmo (a folk literary composition popular in central and eastern Bhutan). Hence depending on the people who recite it, they make their own tune as per their accents. Ballads are widely practiced in the eastern parts of the country.
