In most of Bhutan, forests, caves, boulders, trees, streams, lakes and mountains are commonly considered to be the abodes of local deities. Mountain peaks are considered to be abodes of guardian deities (yullha), lakes are inhabited by lake deities (tshomen), cliff deities (tsen) reside in cliffs, water sources are inhabited by water deities (chugilhamu) who act as the guardian of particular valleys. After a 15-minutes walk from the Chime Lhakhang, at the bank of the Punatshangchu, is a rock called Samchudrak, where the male deity Pholha Samchu is believed to reside. Down a little after Samchudrak is another cliff where a tshomen or a demigod known as the Urey Zam is believed to reside.  It is said that the tshomen has an affair with Pholha Samchu.  In the middle of river, there are three huge rocks, which are considered as the Pholha Samchu’s cattle. The people of Chime Lhakhang area propitiate Pholha Samchu & Tshomen Urey Zam every year on the first month of lunar calendar.
