The Kabu Darcham House was used as a hermitage for the practice of solitary retreat. When someone is in solitary retreat, he or she should not meet with outsiders, nor speak to anyone. Dokami from Nobgang village in Punakha shares an incident of how while doing retreat a practitioner asked his attendant to bring a flower by writing it on a piece of paper. The attendant did not understand what he wrote, so he told the lama.
