In this video, Gyelpo talks about the context in which “The Beautiful Yak Lhadar Gaw,” a popular folk song, was composed. According to oral tradition, two men from Soe village, Chuni Dorji and Gup Lingchung, wrote the lyrics and composed the tune, respectively. Quickly, the song became very popular. Gyelpo says that Lhadar Gaw was the most popular yak in Soe, a unique animal that would lead its herd during the seasonal migration. Due to its fame, the king of Paro decided to take possession of the animal. Lhadar Gaw’s herder loved the yak very much, however he had no choice but to give it away to the king.
