The Auxiliary of General or Habitual Truth: གི་རེད་

Tibetan very commonly uses the future to indicate a habitual action or process. It is only from the context that we can determine whether it signifies the future or the generic present (also called “gnomic”).

• རྒྱ་གར་དང་རྒྱ་ནག་ལ་འབྲས་བཏབ་ཀྱི་རེད། “Rice is grown in India and China.” (Literally: “Rice will be grown....”)
• བོད་ལ་མང་ཆེ་བ་བྱ་གཏོར་རྒྱག་གི་རེད། “In Tibet, most people practice sky burial.” (Literally: “will practice....”)
• ཁ་ཤས་ཀྱིས་གླིང་ག་བཏང་གི་རེད། “Some people have picnics.” (Literally: “Some people will have....”)
• དཔྱིད་ཀ་ཤར་དུས་ལྷ་ས་བ་མང་པོ་སྐྱིད་ཆུའི་འགྲམ་ལ་འགྲོ་གི་རེད། “When the spring comes, a lot of people go to the banks of the Kyichu River.” (Literally: “people will go....”)
